Mellie’s a bit of a gypsy. Raised in Michigan, she’s lived in Alabama, Los Angeles, Kentucky, Fresno, Winnipeg (Canada), and now Excelsior Springs. She went to college on a voice scholarship and spent the early part of her adult life singing, touring from Mexico to Hawaii to Canada. She’s lived on a farm, worked in a mission in the Appalachian mountains, and lived in an RV. While her children were young, she taught classes in baking, making pasta, and making soap; and ran a decorative-painting business out of her home. By the time the children were grown, she was painting murals for businesses and homes.
Mellie discovered watercolor while recuperating from a bad accident and finds great delight in working with a media that “has a mind of its own.” Being great believers in self-sufficiency, she and her husband, Ed, also run a website called ConservativePrepper where they write articles about family, politics, and disaster preparedness. Both published authors, they are currently working on an online, interactive writing project, and also in the process of publishing a cooking system to be released soon, called N.O.S.H.
