Where Were You?

If you have been gifted with a generous life span, your life will be lightly speckled with historic milestones. These events affect us differently, but each leave their own impression. I know exactly where I was when an American set foot on the moon, when the Berlin wall came down, when a 6.7 magnitude earthquake struck Northridge California, and September 11, 2001, when the Twin Towers collapsed into rubble.911 Photo By kconnors MorgueFile

It was a Tuesday, and I went into work as I did on dozens of Tuesdays before that. When I went up to my cubicle, my boss was standing

before a TV in his office. I noticed the CNN banner and he looked at me with a shocked impression on his face and said, “We’ve been attacked.” I could only stare as the video repeated the carnage that had taken place earlier that morning.

The company I worked for was called Pelco. They made closed circuit television security systems. The company had an office in Orangeburg, New York and close ties to police and fire departments in New York City. Over the next few weeks, Pelco (a California based company) offered help in a multitude of ways from moral support, to financial, to providing camera equipment to assist in search and rescue efforts.

On December 8, 2001, Pelco hosted 1,150 firefighters, police, and port authority officers and their families at their Clovis, California headquarters. The dedication of the West Coast 9/11 memorial was a touching event but was intended to send a message of support and encourage healing for those who had lost so much. I was blessed to have been heavily involved in the proceedings and my best friend (later to become my wife) sang the national anthem.

To understand the impact, I remember a conversation with one of the fireman’s wives. Her husband was off a ways behind her and laughing with a group of men. She was crying. One of my workmates asked her if she needed anything and could he get her anything. She said, “I’m fine. It’s just that that’s the first time I’ve heard him laugh since September eleventh.”

The wound of 9/11 ran deep. We have healed the best one can do. How many of you remember? Do you teach your children of the impact of such historic events – on the country – on the people?

Do you know where you were on September 11, 2001? Tell us your story! Visit http://conservativeprepper.com/blog/contact-us/ and click on the Contact Us page – We’d love to hear from you.

If you are ever in central California and would like to visit the 9/11 Memorial, it is now located in the Veterans Memorial Building, on the corner of Fourth and Hughes streets in Old Town Clovis California. It is open to the public from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day.

What You Need to Know About the Current Egg Crisis

You may have noticed the price of a dozen eggs has doubled (in some cases tripled) over the last couple of months. There are two major factors causing this (depending upon where you live.)

  1. Avian Flu

Egg production in the central United States has been hit hard by the avian flu. wiselywoven - Hen MorgueFile Poultry in Minnesota and Iowa have been hardest hit.

How big is the problem? 32 million chickens in the Midwest alone, most of them involved in “liquid egg products.” Liquid egg is used in the food service and food manufacturing industries as well as restaurants across the country. As this source becomes scarcer, many reach out to buy whole eggs to fill the shortage. It becomes a very simple case of supply and demand driving up the cost of eggs in your local supermarket.

  1. Government Regulation

This is one aspect few are talking about. At the beginning of the year California Proposition 2 went into effect.

Scarletina Eggs MorgueFileCalifornia libtard Jared Huffman introduced a bill that would require Proposition 2’s provisions apply to ALL eggs SOLD in the state, no matter where the eggs were laid. It’s bad enough that the regulation has dramatically reduced the number of hens a commercial farm can house, and dramatically increased their costs in a year of increased demand; they want to extend their Marxist practices to all farms that ship to their state. If any of you know someone at Foster Farms in California, you might want to suggest to their bosses to contact Tim Corder. The Republican state senator out of Idaho would like to make them a grand offer to move.
